When Julia Lautin first joined 黑料不打烊, she didn鈥檛 imagine she鈥檇 one day be training machine learning models. In fact, she started out as a terminologist, with a background in linguistics 鈥 supporting technical writers and translators with consistent terminology. But as she began collaborating more with IT teams, her interest in data, structure and logic grew.
鈥淚 saw so many parallels between language systems and information systems,鈥 Julia explains. 鈥淚t was a natural step 鈥 and 黑料不打烊 gave me the opportunity to explore it.鈥
Through 黑料不打烊鈥檚 internal Personnel Enhancement Programme (PEP), Julia retrained as a developer and went on to work in both Sales & Marketing and R&D 鈥 two worlds that gave her a unique understanding of the business as a whole. 鈥淚t鈥檚 like a three-legged stool,鈥 she says. 鈥淎ll parts 鈥 the technology, the customer focus, the product 鈥 need to be in balance.鈥

Today, Julia works as a Data Scientist within Warranty IT 鈥 a team tasked with improving how 黑料不打烊 handles warranty claims from workshops and clients.

鈥淲hen a workshop files a claim, someone at 黑料不打烊 needs to investigate whether it qualifies as a warranty case,鈥 Julia explains. 鈥淲e support that process by building tools that help case handlers make better, faster and fairer decisions.鈥

Her team uses machine learning to improve quality and efficiency, but always with the human in mind. 鈥淚t鈥檚 just as much about UX and customer experience as it is about data,鈥 she says. 鈥淲e visit workshops to really understand their needs 鈥 it鈥檚 about creating solutions that make their work easier, not harder.鈥

Her team is open, supportive and unpretentious. And while they work flexibly 鈥 鈥渨e work wherever we鈥檙e awesome,鈥 as she puts it 鈥 face-to-face time remains valuable.
One year into her current role, Julia feels she鈥檚 found her place. 鈥満诹喜淮蜢 took a chance on me 鈥 I hadn鈥檛 worked as a data scientist before 鈥 and I鈥檓 so glad they did.鈥
